It is Vacation Bible School week!!! It is so exciting to see so many children enter the church. Some of those children have never been in church. VBS is a neat opportunity. People are able to boldly share the Gospel with children for 3 1/2 hours a day for 5 days. That is 17 1/2 hours of the Bible. So many of the kids today don’t know the stories of the Bible. Today, we talked about Zaccaeus. Some don’t know that story:( They don’t know the song:( Please be praying for all the kids this week. Duane and I will be sharing the Gospel at the end of the week. Pray for the Spirit to move in a powerful way.
I am so proud of OBC. There are 65 members who have been working hard with VBS this week. The people at OBC have such a love for the church. One thing that has really amazed
me is the desire for many to grow in their understanding of the Bible. Sunday morning, we are going through the book of Acts. Sunday night we are covering theology and on Wednesday night we are covering Bible characters. The Wednesday and Sunday night group keeps on growing. People ask so many questions…and I love it! I told MB this week that I feel like I am using every bit of my seminary training as a lead pastor. Please be in prayer for me that I stay in tune with God. What I have learned this month of being a lead pastor is this…a pastor has to stay in the Word as much as he can. It is only through God that I can do my calling. It is only through God that I can prepare messages and lesson plans. It is only through God that I can preach empowered by the Holy Spirit. If I take my eyes off Him…then it becomes me. Me doesn’t cut it.
Volunteer of the Week: Melanie Jones has been a dynamite VBS director. She has planned, recruited volunteers, registered participants, coordinated with all the workers the schedules, and help transform OBC into an underwater wonderland. She has done a great job and it shows:) If you see her in the halls at OBC, thank her for all that she has done.
…until the next step…
